PaliHi Girls Golf Is Undefeated

With only two matches left before league finals on Oct. 27, the Palisades High School girls golf team is undefeated.

“We have completely dominated the Western League [Venice, LACES, University and Westchester],” said Coach James Paleno. “Our goal this year is to win the league championship and compete with the top teams in City finals.”

There are 22 golfers now on the team—ranging in ability from beginners to those who have experience.

The team’s captain and low scorer is sophomore Melanie Matayoshi. Paleno also credits seniors Sophia Eberlein and Camila Paleno (his niece) and sophomore Abby Brown with solid performances.

In a match at Penmar in Venice against other league teams, the “Golfin’ Dolphins” shot 233 for nine holes, their best score since the program restarted three years ago.

“I’m very proud of the hard work and dedication demonstrated by our entire team,” Paleno said.

“Freshmen Mariana Paleno (niece), Lillia Weissmuller and Casey Neumann have shown great potential this year,” Paleno said. “This bodes well for the future of the team.”

League finals (Oct. 27) and city finals (Nov. 2) will be held at Balboa Golf Course.
