Food for Thought, the popular speaker series at the Palisades Presbyterian Church, will present two speakers in October: Dr. Nancy Macky and Robert Rosenstone.
Macky’s topic is “Presidential Character” at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 11. This will be an opportunity to hear her insights about the candidates before the November election.
She was the research assistant and edi- tor of American Ulysses: A Life of Ulysses S. Grant, by Ronald C. White, which is being published by Random House on October 4. General David H. Petraeus writes: “Certain to be recognized as the classic work on Ulysses S. Grant, American Ulysses is a monumental examination of one of the most compelling figures in American history.”
Pulitzer Prize-winner Jon Meacham writes: “ In this thorough and engaging new book, Ronald C. White restores Ulysses S. Grant to the pantheon of great Americans. As a soldier and a president, Grant rendered his nation invaluable service, and White’s epic biography is invaluable as well.”
Macky was a visiting scholar at Wolfson College of Oxford University, and a member of the National Endowment for Humanities at Columbia University. She is the widow of Dr. Peter Macky, who previously served as associate minister at Palisades Presbyterian.
Historian Robert Rosenstone, the author of 15 books, will speak on “Stalking History in the USSR, Spain, Japan and Hollywood,” at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 20.
The Pacific Palisades resident is a professor of history (emeritus) at Caltech and has lectured at more than 50 universities on six continents.
