The Palisades Elementary School campus was filled with a variety of bouncy houses, game booths, music, dancing and food last Saturday, Oct. 15, for the school’s annual Yee-Haw Day.
“Yee-Haw Day is such a community builder,” said Principal Joan Ingle. “It’s fabulously organized. Kids come back to earn community service credit, kids from other schools come, parents come. It’s a fun get-together.”
Parents volunteered to run the various food and game booths along with a large and enthusiastic group of youth volunteers, mostly Palisades Elementary School graduates attending Paul Revere Middle School. One sixth grader who returned said, “The school now looks so small.”
Rodeo Realty sponsored food trucks and there was a bake sale, popcorn, shaved ice, Palisades Pizza, Yogurt Shoppe favorites and other treats. Dancers from Fancy Feet performed and ran the popular cake walk.
Kindergarten parents Marissa Rood and Emily Mackay, though new to the school, volunteered to run the Yee-Haw Day fair. The two worked together in the spring organizing the Scoot-a-thon to Cure Batten fundraiser at Palisades High School.
Children from the community, many sporting colorful hair braids, air-brush tattoos, and painted faces, used their tickets for go-kart racing, the inflatable rock climbing wall, the obstacle course and the many game booths.
Ticket sales and a raffle helped raise funds to support the school’s enrichment programs.
