Westside Ballet Offers ‘The Nutcracker’

The Westside Ballet of Santa Monica, with live music by the Santa Monica College Symphony, will present “The Nutcracker” on the Broad Stage for nine performances.

This will be a special treat for Pacific Palisades residents because Lucia Connolly, who lived in Pacific Palisades and is now studying at the School of American Ballet on a full scholarship, returns home for the holidays and will dance the Sugar Plum Fairy as one of the Westside’s guest artist on December 20 at 11 a.m. and December 21 at 1 p.m.

Additionally, Westside Ballet will present 10 other Palisadians at different performances: three sisters—Emilia, Bella and Sofia Davies—will perform together for the first time in “The Nutcracker.”

Last year was the first time that Westside partnered with the Broad. “It was an enormous success,” said Martine Harley, the Westside Artistic Director. “We are proud to partner with them, offering an unforgettable holiday experience for the entire family.”

Based on E.T.A. Hoffman’s The Nutcracker and the Mouse King” and the Marius Petipa classic, Westside’s rendition is the complete, traditional ballet, from the Victorian-style party scene to the glittering Sugar Plum Fairy. Look for special effects that include a glowing Christmas tree, a firing cannon and falling snow.

The theater is located at 1310 11th Street in Santa Monica. Performances are December 13 and 14 at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m.; December 18 and 19 at 7 p.m.; December 20 at 11 a.m.; and December 21 at 1 and 5 p.m. All tickets are $40. For more information, visit westsideballet.com.
