What Can You Expect in Drug Rehab Facilities

Going to drug rehab is a serious choice that many people make when they hit rock bottom. They may be required by the courts due to legal issues. Perhaps they have pushed away all of their relationships. Or maybe they lost someone that was near to them to drugs as well. No matter the reason for choosing rehab, here are some of the things you can expect when you stay at a drug rehab facility for 30, 60, or 90 days or more.

You’ll Go Through an Intake Process

Whether you’re being court-ordered to attend rehab, or you go of your own free will, the first step when you arrive will be an intake process. They will do physical assessments, and mental health assessments, and develop a treatment plan. These can include anything from rehab and individual therapy to group therapy and getting a sponsor. It’s important to understand that no two treatment plans are exactly alike because the underlying issues, trauma, and experiences of each person who is addicted to drugs are very different.

Your Body Will Need to Detox

Medical detox aims to help individuals become no longer physically dependent on drugs. Depending on what drugs an individual is using will help determine what the process will look like for detox. People seeking addiction help in LA will find that the best facilities offer longer programs that help them step off of drugs with as little trauma as possible. The detoxification process can be difficult on the body, which also makes it difficult on the mind. They offer medical and mental health support throughout the process to ensure there are no harmful side effects, and that the process is completed.

You’ll Get Much-Needed Medical Support

Because detoxification is so hard on the body, most drug rehab facilities offer medical support. Patients may be given medications to help ease nausea or to relax. Sedatives may be given in the process as well. Some patients detox very quickly in a matter of a day or two, while others may take a week or more to get through. In-patient facilities offer the support a person needs to safely detox from any drug.

Skilled Therapists Will Meet With You 1:1

Part of every detox program is to care for the mental health of the patients. Most drug addicts have real-life experiences that led them down this path and they need help working through those issues. They may have underlying conditions like depression, anxiety, or PTSD that need attention. By giving rehab patients the attention they need, you can reduce the rate of them going back to drugs later on. Many programs include not only individual therapy sessions but also group therapy as well. They may also experience specialized therapy like art therapy or horse therapy as they learn to cope with the real world once again. Additionally, patients will learn healthy coping skills and how to avoid situations that might put them at risk.

You’ll Need to Stay Off Drugs While in Treatment

Those who want to make a life transformation will be kept in the facility long past the point where they have physically detoxed from drugs. They will be heavily monitored. Many are not allowed visitors up until a certain point. Additionally, they can’t use a cell phone either. This incubation allows them the freedom to start walking their sobriety when they have the support around them to succeed. It’s important to allow outside people in when the time is right. Therapists often help patients navigate tricky relationships and to find healthy people to be in their lives as well throughout the rehab process.

You’ll Make a Plan for Sobriety When You Leave

Finding a good community of people to help you stay sober in LA is important. Drug rehab facilities are the start of what can be a transformed life for many who stay the course. Sometimes it’s not going to be successful the first, second, or third time someone tries to stay sober. But hopefully, with a good plan in place, healthy relationships, and a good therapist, they can keep drugs away and find healthier coping mechanisms in the process.

Each person will be given a plan for sobriety when they leave drug rehab. These plans might include how often to attend therapy, or group therapy, and if they should pursue other medications for underlying mental health conditions. They will be connected with someone that they can call day or night to help them when they hit roadblocks.
