5 Spring & Summer Southern California Essentials

While everyone knows that living in Southern California comes with the massive perk of idyllic weather virtually year-round, your wardrobe needs will still change during spring and summer. You can have incredibly beautiful and warm days, and then suddenly, the nights are significantly cooler. While we may not have as much rainfall as most of the country, you still want to be prepared for anything when it comes to looking and feeling your best. With that in mind, let us look at the top essentials you’ll want in your closet this spring and summer to enjoy the season as much and as comfortably as possible.

Layering Is Key

Having your layering game locked down is imperative during the warmer months, from timeless denim jackets to more dressed-up sports jackets. You want to be able to finish your stroll through Pacific Palisades at a high-end restaurant to enjoy some of the finest seafood in California at Gladstone’s. No matter your plans for the day, having at least a cardigan stowed away in your shoulder bag or your car is important to make sure you can roll with the punches the weather sends your way. So, invest in layers that flatter your body type and match your style.

Signature Jewelry

While it’s easy to argue that jewelry is a year-round essential when it comes to your wardrobe, it’s sometimes more important during the spring and summer months as we tend to wear less and dress more casually. You can elevate a pair of shorts and a t-shirt with a simple addition of jewelry. If you need a new set of pearl earrings, gold necklaces for women or men, or maybe just a pair of diamond studs – make sure you’ve added them to your spring and summer shopping list. Jewelry is the addition that every outfit needs to set the tone.

Footwear For Anything

While spring and summer lend themselves to more casual clothing, the same is true for our shoes. Sandals and sneakers tend to reign during the summer months, but you also need to make sure you consider safety. With so much natural beauty to explore in California, you may be hiking the Temescal Canyon Park or strolling along the J. Paul Getty Villa – you want to be comfortable. Additionally, with so many world-class dining experiences in the area, you’ll want to fit in seamlessly with the rest of the restaurant’s crowd. Making sure you invest in the appropriate footwear to enjoy these seasons is paramount.

Oversized Sunnies & Sun Hats

Since Southern California isn’t known for its overcast days any time of year, but especially during the summertime, you must be protecting your face and eyes with the appropriate wardrobe pieces. From oversized sunglasses to sun hats and visors, you must protect the delicate skin on your face. While wearing SPF year-round is advisable for many reasons, not the least of which is premature aging of your skin and prevention of skin cancer – the protection doesn’t need to end there. From enjoying a day at Will Rogers State Park to hiking Backbone Trail, you want to make sure a sun hat and sunglasses cover you.

Additionally, no chic summer outfit is complete without a pair of luxury sunglasses from garden parties to your child’s soccer game. Oversized sunglasses can also come in handy when you haven’t gotten enough sleep the night before but still need to drop your child off for lacrosse practice in the morning.

A Carry-All Tote

Hitting The Point At The Bluffs or just enjoying a shopping day with friends, having a go-to tote that can handle all your day’s needs is critical for spring and summer in California. Make sure you’ve got enough room for your reusable water bottle, your SPF, and maybe even a bathing suit, and running home to grab something is easily a thing of the past. Thankfully all design houses and smaller retailers know the importance of a comfortable carry-all, and they’re easily found at any price point.

It’s easy to get comfortable living in a place like The Palisades, but you can ensure your spring and summer are as carefree as they’re meant to be by covering all your bases with the above-mentioned wardrobe staples. Enjoy the season!
