Los Angeles Opera principal horn, L.A. Philharmonic former principal clarinetist, Austrian Radio Symphony Orchestra former principal bassoonist and the Santa Barbara Chamber Orchestra principal oboist will perform at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 25 at St. Matthew’s Parish to usher in the 20th season of Chamber Music Palisades.
Tickets ($30) will be available at the door. Students with ID are admitted free. The program will include a Bach concerto, an arrangement of Bizet’s Carmen Fantasy, works by Georgy Ligeti and a sextet for winds and piano by Thuille.
Hornist Steven Becknell, clarinetist Michele Zukovsky, bassoonist Judith Farmer and oboist Jennifer Johnson will be joined by CMP Co-Artistic Directors flutist Susan Greenberg and pianist Delores Stevens.
The second concert of the season on Jan. 17 will spotlight guitar virtuoso Kenton Youngstrom, who will play the music of Castelnuevo-Tedesco, Isaac Albeniz and Jacques Ibert. Acclaimed tenor Andrew Livingston Geis will perform the songs of Strauss and Schubert.
Concert three on March 14 will present two of this city’s brightest stars, concert violinist Ida Levin and renowned cellist Ron Leonard, with music by Schubert, Martinu and Barber.
The season finale on April 25 will feature the world premiere of a work by Laura Karpman, another in the CMP series of showcasing women composers. Works by Beethoven and Debussy will complete the program.
“Since 1997 Chamber Music Palisades has concentrated on its primary mission, which is to bring professional chamber concerts to the Westside that are the equal of any in the Southland,” said CMP President Jim Stevens. “Our pledge to our supporters and to the regional community is to continue this effort going forward to our next anniversary milestone.”
