Will new legislation grow the gambling industry in the US?

The gaming industry has always been popular, but it has now become one of the most popular industries in the world. It used to just be about playing a couple of casino games, but it’s now put its feelers out into other industries and has started to take those over too.

You can visit a gaming website and not just play games, but you can also place wagers on sports games. However, that could all be about to change with some new legislation that is coming into play. Let’s take a look at what this new legislation is, and how it will impact sports betting.

What is the new gambling legislation?

There have been a lot of changes made to the legislation when it comes to sports gambling, and they keep changing all the time. The last big change we saw was when The Supreme Court came down hard on sports betting and introduced a federal ban on it in 2018. Then, six years later, sports betting came back on the scene again and the legislation was overturned. It was then legalised in 38 states which led it to becoming incredibly popular again.

All of this back and forth has been very confusing for those who want to place wagers on sports games, and never really know when it’s possible and when it isn’t. And it looks like that is set to change yet again as more federal legislation is preparing to be implemented.

Two people are at the forefront of this new legislation and they are Rep. Paul Tonko D-N.Y. and Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn. They want to introduce something called the Supporting Affordability and Fairness with Every Bet, or the SAFE Bet Act.

The basic sum up of this act is that they want to ensure that there are minimum standards in place that every betting agent has to adhere to. This is supposed to keep everyone much safer online and when they are placing wagers on sports teams. It means that there are set rules and regulations that they will have to adhere to in order to be compliant at a state level.

What kind of gaming does this impact?

This legislation is for sports gambling, one of the more contentious parts of the gaming industry as a whole. It might seem strange that this form of gambling is the most contentious, but it does actually make a lot of sense.

When you’re playing online casino games, you are well aware that you’re gaming. You have come to the gaming website or app for the purpose of gaming. You are putting your own money down and you know all of the odds and the risks involved with playing these games.

However, sports gambling doesn’t feel the same. It feels like placing a wager on your favourite team to win, or you’re betting on who they’re playing so you don’t feel as bad if they lose. It doesn’t feel like the same kind of gambling that you would be doing at a casino, so people don’t think that there’s as much of an issue with it.

This can easily spiral and it can cause issues for those who don’t have strict deposit limits or rules that they follow in order not to lose any money.

What does this legislation hope to do?

The main goal of the legislation is to keep people safer online, and that is a top priority for everyone. We should all be looked after online, and there should be rules that everyone follows in order to make sure everything is above board.

Safety needs are always changing as technology improves so these laws should hopefully catch everything and everyone up to where they need to be in order to be safe.

Another secondary benefit that should come out of this is that sports games should go back to just being about the sport. There are too many distractions in the world in general and too much technology that threatens to take us out of the moment.

Hopefully, this new legislation should bring sports games back to their main purpose – and that is to keep people entertained. Sports games can go back to being about the sports as the main point of watching them, rather than having a wager on the go at the same time.

Bringing the sports back into the sports games means that people will be more involved in the important thing which is enjoying the game with friends and family. It should bring sports back to their main purpose.

What do you think of the new legislation? Do you think it’s going to mean improvement for sports games? Or do you think it’s an unnecessary addition – let us know.
