Katz has been one of this country’s leading anti-sexist male scholar-activists. In this talk, which is open to the public, he will examine the role that media, sports and politics play in shaping gender norms and the importance of understanding and changing the cultural environment in which boys and girls learn sexist beliefs and abusive behaviors that follow them into adulthood.
Katz is the author of The Macho Paradox: Why Some Men Hurt Women and How All Men Can Help (Sourcebooks, 2006) and has created three educational videos for high school and college students. One is titled Spin the Bottle: Sex, Lies, and Alcohol (2004).
