Boys & Girls Club of Malibu Raising Suicide Prevention With New Apparel Line

Teen Leaders Have Crafted an Apparel Line, Which Is Set to Debut at the Club’s Newly Opened Third Space Storefront on May 14, Coinciding With National Mental Health Awareness Month

The Boys & Girls Club of Malibu has initiated “1 in 5,” a youth-led suicide prevention project aimed at raising awareness about mental health and promoting access to no-cost support services provided through BGCM’s Wellness Center.

As part of the campaign, teen leaders have crafted an apparel line, which is set to debut at the Club’s newly opened Third Space storefront on May 14, coinciding with National Mental Health Awareness Month. All proceeds from sales of the “1 in 5” apparel line will directly benefit the BGCM Wellness Center’s mental health counseling and social support services.

The “1 in 5” apparel line features crewneck sweaters adorned with thought-provoking statements, intended to inspire and support individuals’ mental health while sparking crucial conversations about suicide prevention. BGCM teens aim to empower peers who may feel isolated to seek proactive mental health support.

BGCM invites the community to support this impactful project and encourage teens to become champions of mental health awareness and advocates for suicide prevention within their communities. Community members are invited to join Third Space Malibu’s “1 in 5 apparel showcase” on May 14 from 5 to 7 p.m. at 23357 Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu Village. Light refreshments will be served, and the event is open to all, with no RSVP required.

The Club encourages community involvement in National Mental Health Awareness Month by purchasing a “1 in 5” crewneck sweater or making a direct donation to the Boys & Girls Club of Malibu Wellness Center. The BGCM Wellness Center operates as a trauma-informed facility, offering no-cost mental health and wellness services to youth from K to 12th grade, families, and the aging population.
