Jinky’s Cafe is Returning to Santa Monica

The Development Comes After Months After the Franchise Closed Its Previous Santa Monica Storefront

By Zach Armstrong

Several months after The Independence, a modern tavern formerly located in the heart of downtown Santa Monica, vacated its space at the intersection of Broadway and 2nd, a Los Angeles coffee shop chain is taking its spot to make a return to the Westside.

Jinky’s Cafe has placed its logo on the awnings and confirmed the upcoming opening on its website.

The development comes after the franchise closed its previous Santa Monica storefront (also on 2nd street), but indicated it would reopen “soon” somewhere in the charter city. Jinky’s serves an array of breakfast, brunch and lunch options such as pancakes, crepes, sandwiches, chilis, pizza, French toast, and burgers, along with a variety of coffee, tea, juice and smoothie beverages.

A precise opening date for Jinky’s Westside return has yet to be announced, aside from its website stating “New location coming soon. Stay tuned. More information to come.” According to Toddrickallen.com, the new Santa Monica spot will serve all-day dining with beer, wine and cocktails. Jinky’s has five other L.A. locations, including those in Sherman Oaks, Studio City, Camarillo and West Hills, with another upcoming location in Agoura Hills.

Jinky’s isn’t the only L.A. food chain making a presence at the same bustling corner.
Practically right next door at 215 Broadway, artisan ice cream shop franchise Turn Dough is also in the process of establishing its newest spot. With other locations set up on Venice Beach’s Ocean Front Walk and the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Turn Dough boasts 18 signature ice cream cone options. Only instead of a cone, these creations are wrapped in the shop’s “chimney cake pastry.”
