Remembering Patricia Louise Collins

Patricia Louise Collins June 21, 1935 – June 26, 2019

Patricia “Pat” Collins was born to Warren N. and Ethel V. Kilbourn on June 21, 1935, in Santa Monica, California. She graduated from Santa Monica High School in 1953, and later attended college at Sacramento Junior College, where she received an Associate of Science degree in nursing. Pat completed the certification process to become a Registered Nurse.

She married George W. Collins on January 19, 1957, and they moved to the Pacific Palisades in December, 1964.

Pat had a great love for all dogs and lavished affection on her own dogs, treating them as family. She devoted herself to learning about man’s best friend.  Pat had an engaging personality and was well loved by her family and friends, who especially enjoyed her talent for gourmet cooking.

Pat served as President of the Pacific Palisades Junior Women’s Club from 1971 to 1972.  She was a member of the Las Doradas Charity Group for over 45 years and served as President in 1977, 1978 and 1987.  She was elected to the Pacific Palisades Community Council. Pat was an active member of the Palisades Village Green Committee and helped spearhead the fundraising efforts to purchase property in the Pacific Palisades, which was converted from a gas station into the beautiful Village Green Park.   She was also an active member of the Board of Directors of the Village Green. She served on the Board of Directors for the Palisades YMCA. She was a member and Chairperson of Night Lights Auxiliary of Assistance League in Santa Monica.  She furthered her love of cooking by being a member of the Pacific Palisades Gourmet Lunch Group and held leadership positions in that group.

Pat actively participated for over 40 years with her Gemini’s Lady Group, and lunched with them a week prior to death.  Pat and George also enjoyed many years with their monthly dinner group.  She enjoyed participating with her husband in the activities of the Rotary Club of Santa Monica.

She died on June 26, 2019, from Acute Myeloid Leukemia. She is survived by her husband, George Collins, brother Michael Kilbourn, her nieces, Shelly McGee and Kristin Kilbourn,  her husband’s niece Laura Rossman and nephew Jeff Sparks, and her yellow Labrador Retriever Cualli.

A Memorial Service for Pat was held on July 23, 2019 at the Palisades Lutheran Church, located at 15905 Sunset Blvd., Pacific Palisades, California.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Best Friends NKLA, 1845 Pontius Avenue, Los Angeles, California 90025.
