Brentwood, Palisades, and West Los Angeles Libraries Are Ready for Summer

As summer approaches, local libraries are gearing up for a season filled with engaging activities and programs. The Brentwood, Palisades, and West Los Angeles Libraries have many opportunities for everyone to get involved in fun local educational activities. 

The Brentwood library’s summer reading program will run from June 10 to August 10, with more details about special summer events to be announced soon.

This week, the Brentwood library kicks off a new Storytime session, which will run for eight weeks, excluding June 19, when the library will be closed for Juneteenth. Each Storytime is limited to 25 children, with free tickets available at the circulation desk on Wednesday mornings.

This Week’s Schedule:

  • Tuesday, 5/21 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m: STAR Reader Alicia
  • Wednesday, May 22
    • 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.: Toddler/Preschool Storytime
    • 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.: STAR Reader Bonnie
  • Thursday, May 23
    • 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m..: Brick-Building Playtime
    • 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m..: STAR Reader Camille

Palisades Library Hosts Exciting Events: 

“Mindful Mondays” Meditation

The Palisades Library will host its “Mindful Mondays” meditation session on Monday, May 20, at 10:30 a.m. Supported by the Friends of the Palisades Library and Silvi Winthrop, this free program offers a morning of mindfulness and meditation led by certified instructor Silvi Winthrop. Participants may bring their own cushions or use those provided. Regular seating is also available. RSVP to Silvi at silviwinthropcounseling@gmail.com.

Mysterious Book Club Meeting

The Mysterious Book Club will meet on Tuesday, May 21, at 1:30 p.m. This month’s book is “The Expendable Man” by Dorothy B. Hughes. New members are welcome, even if they haven’t read the book. The club encourages everyone to join and discuss the gripping mystery.

Film Screening: “Carved in Silence”

In honor of Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month, the library will screen “Carved in Silence” on Saturday, May 25, at 2 p.m. The film explores the experiences of Chinese immigrants detained at Angel Island during the Chinese Exclusion era, highlighting its historical significance.

West Los Angeles Library Events

The West Los Angeles Regional Branch Library also offers a variety of programs for children:

  • STAR Stories With Grinnell
    • Mondays, 3-5 p.m.
  • Toddler Storytime
    • Wednesdays, 10 a.m.
  • STAR Stories With Pam
    • Wednesdays, Noon-2 p.m.
  • Crafternoon
    • Wednesday, May 22, 3-5 p.m. – Are you working on a craft project you can’t seem to find time to finish? Bring it in and make space for yourself! We’ll chat, have treats, and work together. Don’t have one? We’ll provide coloring pages and pens/pencils, so come relax with us.
  • Thursday Storytime
    • Thursdays, 4:15 p.m.

These programs provide opportunities for children to enjoy storytelling, reading, and crafts in a fun, community-oriented environment.
